My name is Matthew Birtch and I’m one of those strange people who are in touch with both sides of their brain, blending art & science, creativity & functionality on a daily basis. I’m a seasoned product designer who loves to imagine better experiences for digital products.
As far as my career goes…
Mattermost
Currently, I’m employed at a software company called Mattermost as a Product Design Lead. Over the last few years at Mattermost, I’ve been working alongside various teams to take the platform from being a chat app to a suite of collaboration tools. I’ve also been a part of the team that redesigned the mobile app and helped establish a design system for our products.
Quarry
I also have a rich background in digital design at marketing and advertising agencies as a UX/UI designer. Previously, I worked at Quarry creating rich interactive experiences for a wide range of high-profile brands. My expertise covers a broad spectrum – from art direction to user experience design to branding.
Mosaic
Prior to working at Quarry, I worked at Mosaic in Toronto, where I led a team of designers and front-end developers on digital projects. Having also worked as a freelancer for a number of years, I have an entrepreneurial spirit seeking to understand all aspects of the business and develop processes and best practices to better serve clients more efficiently and effectively.
Education
Along with my industry experience, I have a university degree in Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo and a postgraduate diploma in Web Design from Sheridan College which has given me the versatility and flexibility to work in any design media.
